NEighborhood Spotlight: Northeast Farmers Market

Get to know your Northeast neighbors. If you’ve been to the Northeast Farmers Market, chances are you’ve seen a sign announcing Eastside Food Co-op as a market sponsor. And it makes sense. We have a lot in common – like our commitment to fresh, seasonal produce grown by local farmers. But the co-op’s connection to the market goes even deeper.

Founded in 2000 by former co-op board member Stephanie Lundeen, the Northeast Farmers Market began as a gathering place to build community support for the co-op. It’s where we first established relationships with growers, meat producers, neighborhood organizations and our earliest co-op owners. When the co-op opened its doors in the 2003, the Northeast Farmers Market became its own non-profit entity and the first community-based farmers market in Minneapolis.

Today the Northeast Farmers Market connects community members to 26 farmers and growers, 26 artisans and 23 specialty food vendors at their weekly Saturday Market. Market-goers enjoy food trucks, activities for kids and live music from May through October. Eastside Food Co-op is proud to support the farmers market, and grateful for our shared cooperative history!

Visit the Northeast Farmers Market Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at corner of University and 7th Avenue NE.
