Our April Seedlings recipient is Land Stewardship Project.
The Land Stewardship Project (LSP) is a membership-based organization that aims to foster an ethic of stewardship for farmland, to promote sustainable agriculture and to develop healthy communities. They’re dedicated to creating change in our food and farming system. LSP’s work has a broad and deep impact, from new farmer training and local organizing to federal policy and community-based food systems development.
LSP fosters a socially and racially equitable food economy by helping to develop and disseminate sustainable agricultural practices for a changing climate, getting more farmers on the land, and taking a stand against corporate control through policy organizing. LSP works to train and support early farmers through their Farm Beginnings Program. LSP promotes environmentally beneficial farming methods through their farmer-to-farmer Soil Builder’s Network, which brings farmers together to learn soil-healthy farming practices.
