Minneapolis Edible Boulevards is an initiative devoted to dismantling food apartheid policies and creating self-sustainability in our Green Zone neighborhoods in North and South Minneapolis. Over the last three summers, they’ve partnered with Little Earth Farm, Tamales y Bicicletas, and Growing North Minneapolis and their Step-Up youth to teach participants how to create gardens on their boulevards. By teaching people how to create their own gardens and grow their own food, they want their participants/mentees to use these skills again and become mentors in the community.
Kelly Shay has an extensive community and social services background with over two decades spent on enriching the lives of others. Since 2000, her career has been focused on the teaching of self-sufficiency skills, environmental sustainability, youth development, family and community engagement, artistic expressions, and mind/body wellness. She has served as a program coordinator, artist liaison, and been a founding leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within education and government systems. “I walk my path humbly, with a natural love and faith in humanity, and have devoted this lifetime to creating equitable access, opportunities, and empowering experiences for others.”
