Round Up to Support Little Kitchen Food Shelf

  • Eastside Food Co-op 2551 Central Ave NE Minneapolis, MN, 55418 (map)

Our March Seedlings recipient is Little Kitchen Food Shelf. Round up your purchases all month long to support their work.

Little Kitchen Food Shelf (LKFS) is a no-boundaries, no-restrictions emergency food shelf serving Northeast Minneapolis and beyond. They serve all people, regardless of income or zip code. In addition, they stock dog and cat food to feed the companion animals of those in need. LKFS also provides fresh produce from our on-site Grace Gardens during the summer months as well as hunger awareness and nutritional education year-round. They actively partner with our community to make it all work!

LKFS boasts a team of more than 100 volunteers which helps serve more than 1,000 people every month during open food shelf hours. They are unique among area food shelves in that they serve EVERYONE who comes to the door: 70% of visitors come from NE Minneapolis, but because they are a no-boundaries, no-restrictions food shelf, the other 30% of visitors come from all over the Twin Cities. This means that LKFS are able to remove all barriers to immediate food assistance. They are also able to serve people who are homeless, who move frequently, or who are recent immigrants. In addition, LKFS send thousands of pounds of food and supplies (often rescued food) into the community via a partner network of schools, apartment communities, churches, restaurants and caterers, food banks, grocery stores and food co-operatives, farmers and gardeners, social and human rights groups, animal protection organizations, and more!
