212 Degrees and Beyond: An Overview of Using Boiling Water and Pressure Canning to Safely Preserve Your Garden Produce

212 Degrees F. and Beyond is an introductory course designed to provide participants with basic research-based knowledge and scientific resources on the basics of boiling water and pressure canning. This class is presented as a step-by-step technique overview and is guided by specific learning objectives, with a focus on safety. Participants will learn how canning preserves food, the proper equipment, appropriate foods choices, prep and suitable recipes for this method of home preservation. If the class is held “live” with a hands-on activity, strawberry jam will be made, which the participants will be able to take home. This class is brought to you by Hennepin County Master Gardener Volunteer Certified Food Preservation Consultants from the University of MN Extension.
